Mare Owner Information Sheet

Thank you for considering a Draggin Ass Ranch stallion to sire your next foal.  The following information is designed to answer questions you may have about expectations and procedures we follow to ensure that your mare has a healthy foal with a minimum number of problems during the breeding and foaling seasons.

To book one of our stallions: Please print out and complete  the breeding contract for the appropriate method of breeding.  Send the completed contract, a copy of the mares registration papers, and the approximate date you wish to breed your mare along with the the nonrefundable booking fee to the address above.

Breeding Fee – Breeding fee applies to the mare being booked for service.  It is not transferable to another mare or mare owner without written approval by Draggin Ass Ranch.
Additional Fees – Mare care and veterinary fees as well as any other expenses will be the responsibility of the mare owner.
Breeding Soundness – We strongly recommend you have your qualified veterinarian check your mare for breeding soundness before bringing her to the ranch.  A uterine culture is recommended on all mares, and required for mares bred but not settled during any previous season.  For better conception success, we may determine that your mare needs to be examined by our veterinarian while she is at the ranch.  Exams may include palpation, ultrasound, and uterine lavage.  We recommend your mare be on a regular de-worming program, and that she receive vaccinations for EHV-1 and EHV-4 (Rhino) during the 5th, 7th, and 9th months of pregnancy.
Coggins Test – A negative Coggins test, taken during the six months prior to breeding, is required for all mares before the come to the ranch.
Live Foal Guarantee – We guarantee you a non lethal white foal that stands and nurses.  If for any reason your mare does not become pregnant, or loses her foal, or produces a lethal white foal we will re-breed your mare during the current or breeding season immediately following the initial breeding season.  You must notify us within 10 days of abortion, still birth, or lethal white foal being born.
Live Colored Foal GuaranteeIs the same as the Live Foal Guarantee in addition to the following guarantees. White Knight Ashwood: We guarantee a foal that will carry the creme dilution gene out of this stallion.  DAR Jacks Harlequin and DAR From Legends:  We guarantee that these stallions will not produce a sorrel, chestnut, palomino, red dun, or red roan colored foal no matter what color the mare is.
Return Service – If you mare does not become pregnant, or loses her foal, or produces a lethal white foal she may return to the ranch during the breeding season immediately following the initial breeding season.  Board and veterinary fees will apply.
Death of Stallion or Mare – If the stallion should die before settling your mare, we will refund the breeding fee.  You may, upon mutual agreement, choose a different Draggin Ass Ranch stallion to breed your mare.  If the mare dies before becoming pregnant or during pregnancy, you may substitute another mare with ranch approval.
Care of your Mare – Every precaution will be taken to ensure the safety and well-being of your mare and her foal while at the ranch.  However, due to the nature of livestock, Draggin Ass Ranch will not be responsible for injury or death of any horse.  It is the mare owner's sole responsibility to provide insurance for his/her horses.
Veterinary Care – The ranch retains the services of qualified and experienced veterinarians.  If something should happen to your mare or her foal while they are at the ranch, every effort to reach the owner will be made.  However, if owner cannot be reached, we will use our best judgment to ensure the health of your horse, with veterinary expenses the responsibility of the horse owner.

Thank you again for considering a Draggin Ass Ranch stallion to sire your next foal.
